Mini Elements

I’m working on some techniques for making elements for mini landscapes quilt/pieces. Here are the rocks. I’ll share this technique as soon as I can. It is super easy, quick and fun… more to come.

I remember…

I remember when I got rid of all of my embroidery paraphernalia; when I became a quilter! Before then, for years, I embroidered everything. Then a few years ago I discovered mark making with thread, more specifically, floss. So, off I went to buy all of  those embroidery tools and materials, again. But now I approach embroidery differently, not so much flowery, cutesy stuff but more as another layer and bit of interest to add to mixed media works of art. Having said that, this is what I did this week while resting with the flu. It is on a piece of my hand painted pole wrapped cotton (faux Shibori).

Even if the subject is no longer my cup of tea, it was fun to draw and stitching it was really good for my motor skills which have been feeling clumsy lately.

Temporarily Sidelined

Unfortunately, I’m on week two of the flu. A couple of days ago I started an embroidery piece because I can only lay and rest for so long! When it’s finished, if it isn’t a foggy headed mess, I’ll post it. One of the worse things is that I’m a walker and haven’t been able to since becoming ill (really makes one appreciate good health) and we’ve had wonderful walking weather too. So I’m going to share some of the photos from past walks and a couple my daughter, (and walking partner) has taken on her lone walks recently. You may notice for me it’s all about the texture!

just sitting in the center of the sidewalk, wish I had brought it home
Sadly, expired
Mushroom bowls
Tiny egg shell, I brought home because I knew it was a close match to one of my garden rocks
Leaves on leaves
Asphalt on cement… What do you see?

We usually look for friendly cats but yesterday Zoey came upon this friendly beauty!

Where do you find inspiration?

Always learning…

I’m working up a new Curious.com lesson and I thought I knew exactly where I was headed but the gel print plate disagreed! I did end up getting a mono print on paper that I’ll use somewhere but it’s useless for the lesson. Maybe I’ll do some MeAnndering in the white areas or some stamping for note cards, or you know, put it in a drawer and not think about it right now!

I’m happy with the background fabric, it is an easier technique than I teach in my older video, at least for a mini art piece. I’ll share more, even the whoopsies, as I go along… Always learning!
