Size, like value, is relative…

I’m (finally) finishing a lap quilt for The Alzheimer’s Study Quilt Project (thank you Jeffree Itrich). As you may know I work usually work small; miniatures have always been my favorite, and the artsier the better – No traditional patterns for me anymore (alas, never say never)! If you are a quilter who makes king size quilts you may think I’m a wimp, but to me this lap quilt may as well be king size!

When I make quilts for donation I daydream about the recipient, though I have no idea who they are it still makes be feel appreciative to the person who will end up with the quilt because they have probably given something of them self to end up with the quilt. I know so many quilters who make and donate quilts to many great causes, it’s truly heartwarming. I encourage everyone to do something they love to bring a joy to another person. Nothing could be easier!

Above is a photo of the lap quilt top; a simple four patch made using some wonderful fabrics from my stash. The free motion quilting pattern is just one I made up of a leaf (I have a serious thing for leaves!) and a little meandering too. Not sure yet what I’ll do in the small outside border, we will see…

Until next time Quilt Away, A

By Ann Scott

I started sewing and designing using fabric, thread, and paper when I was a child. I taught myself to make quilts, at first not following the "rules," then watched some experts, learned the rules, and made many hand quilted and appliqued quilts. I spent years focusing on miniature landscape quilts. Now I am a fiber and mixed media artist and that encompasses everything I have a passion for. I have taught, lectured, and my work have show nationally and internationally, some pieces have been published.
