Bloggers Moving On

I have been a follower of a wonderful blog, I have mentioned in the past, And Then We Set It On Fire… Today it was announced that the contributors will no longer be posting new posts. I’m sad but totally understand. I will miss the inspiration and great techniques that have been shared by the many artists over the years. The site will be up for now and at least through June, so if you aren’t familiar with it I hope you will go check it out and from there you may find links to the individual artists and much more inspiration and eye candy.

My own blogging has been sporadic to say the least! There are personal reasons and reasons I’ll blame of the political climate. I appreciate you stopping by and I hope you enjoy what I have to say but mostly the fiber art I share. Thank you!

Here is my most recent piece…

Irreconcilable
Detail front
Detail back

I painted over the raw edged patchwork and quilting and was pleasantly surprised that some of the fabric print showed through; it added another visual layer. This piece didn’t make it to where I had hoped but I really like it. I may offer it for sale at the San Diego Quilt Show in the Quilt Sales booth, where I’ll be chairperson again.

By Ann Scott

I started sewing and designing using fabric, thread, and paper when I was a child. I taught myself to make quilts, at first not following the "rules," then watched some experts, learned the rules, and made many hand quilted and appliqued quilts. I spent years focusing on miniature landscape quilts. Now I am a fiber and mixed media artist and that encompasses everything I have a passion for. I have taught, lectured, and my work have show nationally and internationally, some pieces have been published.

  1. Love how you used the back at the source of the quilting design. Sorry it didn’t get where you hoped it would, but jurors are notoriously fickle, and sometimes just have poor taste. I saw this year’s quilt national a few days ago, and a few of the choices were puzzling, to say the least. Yes, I’ve followed that blog, and am sad at its demise, but I think it’s hard to keep such a collaborative effort going. I’ve noticed a falling off of fresh ideas lately.

  2. Thanks. I totally agree with you regarding judging and the fresh ideas over at ATWSIOF. The last time a was asked to judge I was so frustrated with the situation that I decided I may never judge again (I’m not qualified for a major show anyway!). I’m glad to hear your opinion of some of the quilts at Quilt National. The back of my quilt was solid black fabric and I free-motion quilted over raw patchwork (only slightly glued down; not a good idea) then I quilted it in different color threads.
