Map Lichen is a combination photograph and hand painted art quilt. Bring a bit of nature into your life by displaying this one-of-a-kind Photograph on Fiber series piece on your home or office wall.
Several techniques were used to hand paint the 100% cotton fabrics that make up the quilt top. The fabric colors are multi-mottled on the teal area and a flour paste resist was used for the yellow/green and black fabric. After layering the quilt top with the backing and batting fabrics the piece was heavily free-motion quilted. The edges were burned and sealed with gel medium, giving the piece a more organic look.
The quilt was adhered to a board that was built to set off the wall approximately 3/4”; the back slats are felt covered to protect the wall and it is wired for hanging. Holes were marked and drilled through the quilt and backboard.
The photograph (8” x 10”) was applied to an acrylic sheet (12” x 14” x 1/4” thick), holes were drilled, spacers and other hardware attached and then the photograph was mounted 3/4” above the art quilt. The back is signed.
Map Lichen measures approximately 19” x 24 3/4”. Photograph taken by J. Krefting
I recommend the piece be displayed away from direct sunlight, heat, and moisture.
Please note that colors may vary between different monitors, so the colors of the actual piece may not match your monitor display.
