The beautiful Rex Begonia photograph is surrounded by a variety of twirling leaves. Rex Begonia is not an easy plant to grow, but that’s not a worry with this one-of-a-kind Photograph on Fiber piece.

Details –

The leaves under the Rex Begonia photograph were painted using differing techniques. The background, polka dot, and black border are commercial fabrics; all other pieces and details were hand painted on white, 100% cotton fabric. Textile painting techniques include; thinned (for watercolor effect), brushed, and splattered. The painted fabric pieces were cut out, layered with quilt batting and backing fabric. Next the layers were stitched down around the raw leaf edges and the entire top was finished with thread play and free-motion quilting.

The quilt was adhered to a board that was built to float off the wall approximately 3/4”; it has felt covered slats to protect the wall. Holes were marked and drilled through the quilt and backboard.

The photograph was applied to an acrylic sheet, holes were drilled, spacers and other hardware attached and the photograph was mounted 3/4” above the art quilt.

Rex Begonia is approximately 22” x 26”. The back is wired for hanging and is signed.
