Up Stream is a beautiful combination of textile softness under the hard, sleek photograph. It will display beautifully in a space that calls for a nature inspired, calm and tranquil work of art.
The quilt backdrop; fabric was pole wrapped and painted to create a faux shibori look (background and stream ripples). Gold metallic paint was applied to silk rectangles using a carved leaf stamp and brush. Colors are; values of celadon, olive, charcoal gray, black, and gold. The quilt was layered with cotton batting and backing fabric. Next a tree, leaves, and stream ripples were free-motion quilted over the entire quilt top. The quilt was adhered to a board that was built to set off the wall approximately 3/4”; the back slats are felt covered to protect the wall and it is wired for hanging. Holes were marked and drilled through the quilt and backboard.
The photograph (8” x 10”) is applied to an acrylic sheet (11” x 14”), holes were drilled, spacers and other hardware attached and the photograph was mounted 3/4” above the art quilt. The back is signed.
Up Stream measures 17 1/2” x 21 3/4”. Photograph was taken by @CameronScottPhotography.
