Something New and a Little Green – Fiber Designs by Ann

I was gifted an herb planter set for Mother’s Day (from my Mister), and even though they were in a sunny window, it wasn’t going well until I placed them outside in the (filtered) sun. At first I thought – In jars without drain holes, bad idea but… Now they are very happy and I don’t feel like a plant killer! Hopefully the cilantro (the one I most wanted) won’t bolt.

I’m not a watercolor on paper artist but because I made the mistake of leash training Kona, I seem to be spending more time out on the kitchen deck, so I decided to try my hand.

I admire anyone who can paint Plein Air… I’m intimidated by it!

Back in the studio where I feel more confident… Here is a little detail of my most recent Photograph on Fiber series piece. It will be on display at the San Diego Quilt Show August 30 (evening Preview Party) through September 3, 2016. After the piece professionally photographed I’ll share it on the blog.

I started sewing and designing using fabric, thread, and paper when I was a child. I taught myself to make quilts, at first not following the "rules," then watched some experts, learned the rules, and made many hand quilted and appliqued quilts. I spent years focusing on miniature landscape quilts. Now I am a fiber and mixed media artist and that encompasses everything I have a passion for. I have taught, lectured, and my work have show nationally and internationally, some pieces have been published.

Yes, cilantro, like dill, loves to go to seed. Just keep taking off the buds. But, what I really want to know how you leash train a cat. Most cat owners seem to believe the critters are untrainable, though the cats are good at training their owners. I’ll look forward to seeing your new whole cloth quilt in its entirety.

I must remember that – pinch off the buds. Thank you. The first cat I leash trained was young (and really smart), it took a couple weeks. When the harness goes on, they usually fall over (it’s pretty funny). That is done a bit every day and little by little they get used to it. After they are used to it then leash is attached and they drag it around (always with adult supervision!). It is easier when they really want to go outside and they understand that is the only way they will be allowed to – ours have understood that! Kona is ten years old and because we give her towel rub-downs she is used to having something around her middle and because she let herself out doors a couple of times she was very motivated so it only took about two hours to leash train her! My first cat would actually walk around the neighborhood and lay on top of the baby stroller when I strolled babies. Kona is a scaredy cat so mostly just lays around on the deck.
