Fabric Flowers a New Video

I have been having a lot of fun creating flowers for small art quilts and greeting cards. They may not be “fine” art but they are easy and (the cards are) useful and the flowers require very little thinking! Here is my newest video – How to Make Simple White Fabric Flowers.

As you can see they do have a bit of color in the center. I hope you will watch and enjoy!

The flowers below are made using the same materials but a slightly different technique. I’ll be producing a “how-to make the cards” video in the near future. But coming soon are a couple MeAnndering videos. I’ll post them to my blog as soon as they a published.

I started sewing and designing using fabric, thread, and paper when I was a child. I taught myself to make quilts, at first not following the "rules," then watched some experts, learned the rules, and made many hand quilted and appliqued quilts. I spent years focusing on miniature landscape quilts. Now I am a fiber and mixed media artist and that encompasses everything I have a passion for. I have taught, lectured, and my work have show nationally and internationally, some pieces have been published.

  1. Just watched your video and think this would be a good project for a group I belong to where members have widely divergent skills. I was so relieved you brought back your pressing surface for the last press just as I called out, protect your cutting mat, Ann. Do you think Inktense pencils and blocks could be used the same way? I ask because I know members of my group have those, but probably don’t have the wax pastels. I look forward to your future petal videos as I especially like the sunflower shown on the right side.

  2. Thanks. Good question. I have very limited experience with Derwent products. LuAnn Kessi has reviewed of both and posted her conclusions on her blog. I would say just give them a try. I think she and I agree that one big difference is that the Inktense, especially the pencils, would be better in tight or small/detailed areas. When I get a product I like I tend to stick with it and am less likely to try something new for a while (maybe this is being in a rut (?!). Though I usually only use my handmade fabric these days, I did use a commercial fabric for the sunflower center (under the French knots), in the future I’ll probably just “paint” it using the Neocolors.
