I moved my studio and have been trying to get back into the swing of things. I had a painted whole cloth that I actually started quilting ages ago but put away because I was unhappy with the quilting. After the studio move I decided, rather than moving that piece from cupboard to cabinet many… Continue reading Moving and a little free motion
Author: Ann Scott
I started sewing and designing using fabric, thread, and paper when I was a child. I taught myself to make quilts, at first not following the "rules," then watched some experts, learned the rules, and made many hand quilted and appliqued quilts. I spent years focusing on miniature landscape quilts. Now I am a fiber and mixed media artist and that encompasses everything I have a passion for. I have taught, lectured, and my work have show nationally and internationally, some pieces have been published.
“New” studio and bobbin storage
I’m in the process of moving my studio. Though I dream of building a studio above our garage that isn’t in the cards for now. I’m going from a large space with a utility sink to a smaller room and it’s a major change but there is something I won’t be changing – The way… Continue reading “New” studio and bobbin storage
Titling an Art Quilt
Giving an art quilt a title is often a challenge for me and this one was no different. I asked the guys here to tell me what they saw when they looked at it and for any title ideas. Each shared his thoughts and ideas and though it was fun to hear what the piece… Continue reading Titling an Art Quilt
Supporting Artists
I see amazing art every day, and I wish I could buy every piece that I love but, of course that’s not possible. Every once in a while, though, I do treat myself to a special piece. For a long time I have been drooling over these small, gorgeous, mixed media landscapes, by artist Doria… Continue reading Supporting Artists
Doggy play day!

Today I’ll post the first three steps and when it is finished I’ll post it again.… Continue reading Doggy play day!

Comfortable pedal placement…
I finally discovered a set up for my sewing machine pedal, that is comfortable to me and wanted to share it in case it would help any of you. I know there are no-slip pads (I have one) and other ways to set the sewing machine pedal, like wearing heeled shoes or turning the pedal… Continue reading Comfortable pedal placement…

Batik scape
It is rare that I would create a land or waterscape using only commercial fabric but in this case I have my reasons which some day I hope to share. The biggest challenge for me is using a sky I didn’t paint. For now here is the work in progress… It is hand appliqued using… Continue reading Batik scape
Painting skies
One of my favorite things to do in the studio is to transform white cotton fabric into painted sky fabric. Here are three little skies that kick off the same landscape. The sky is what determines where I will go when selecting fabric for the other elements. The landscapes (or waterscapes) will not look like they… Continue reading Painting skies
