Harvest Art

Still waiting for Fall after the 90° Thanksgiving and realizing December is almost here!

This turkey was created for my grandnieces (7 and 6) who had a good time coloring them during our Thanksgiving family gathering.

I gave them each a plain turkey sheet along with one with this MeAnndered turkey below. It was interesting to me that they both (on their own) selected the plain one to color-in. These are very active little people and it warmed this great-aunt’s heart that they wanted to sit and color on them at all! I hope you had a nice Thanksgiving, ours was wonderful.

Printable versions of these turkeys are available on my Patterns tab here on my blog.

Happy Thanksgiving!

I will be sharing Thanksgiving Day with my family… there will be thirty of us. Thankfully we will be in my sister and brother-in-law’s air conditioned home, because it is supposed to be around 90° here!

I’m more of a “thankful to…” than a “thankful for…” kind of person. And today I’m very thankful that I gave birth to my computer tech guy!

I’m using my new computer now but so much of my life and business are still on that old one… hopefully he can get it running again and I”ll be so thankful to him for saving me once again.

Happy Harvest Time to You and Yours!

Seeing Red!

No art work today…it was a beautiful sunny day, in the eighties! I spent part of the day walking in the local Parkinson’s Association 5K Run with a couple loved ones and a cast of thousands (lots of dogs!). This year the t-shirts were red, if you know me well, you know red is not my color but I was invited to wear this and I think it fit pretty well. What do you think?

Love a Parade?

We live in the city but we are part of a couple smaller communities whose business district has for the past 11 years held a Halloween parade know as the Boo Parade. It runs down “main street” which really isn’t a main street anymore but rather just one of the most used streets running east to west through our area. The start of the parade is only a couple blocks from our home so we usually walk up and stay for a short time.

My favorite part of the parade is when the horses come through but that’s usually toward the end, probably so the marching bands and sirens don’t spook them. I have a romanticized view of horses, maybe because I’m a city girl whose mother’s family owned a blind horse on the farm and I’ve never had to clean out stalls and pick up manure. Anyway, this year I stayed for the entire parade and finally saw horses. However my favorite part of the parade was not actually in the parade at all…
Happy Halloween!

Sky watcher

We have a second story bedroom with a deck. There are no plants or furniture on the deck. It is south facing and the sun beat on it all day long so no need for places to sit or sun toasted plants. But most mornings and evenings one or more of us will be out on that deck watching the sky. It is important to us that we stop and look to the sky. It is something we have always shared as a family and even though the sons are adults they still marvel at all that is going on over our heads; how the wind changes the clouds, to see something we have never seen before and will never see again. And for me it is inspiring! I will try to paint this on fabric some day.

Father and Art

We have been celebrating my husband, father of my sons today, but I’m also missing my own dad. He spent his professional life inside helicopter and jet engines but when he had leisure time he could be found in his workshop designing and making wonderful things…

My dad made this table for me, at my request, so that I would be able to show off quilt blocks made by his mother.

The blocks in this table were made by my dad’s mother; a quilter, who died before I was born.

I remember when I was making this landscape and having a hard time finding fabric for the water and sand (it was before I painted fabric), my dad was giving me his artistic opinion and when I finally got it he gave me an excited “Yes!” Later I gifted the landscape to my parents and he made a beautiful frame for it. If I ever find the photo of it framed (or remember who was given the piece after my mom’s death) I’ll post it.

This is a poor photo – the piece actually is straight!

I was very fortunate to have an artistic father and to have parents who were supportive of my art.
